Chapter Five

Thom waited, approximating sitting on the bed next to Sean with both his arms and legs crossed. Elan was out for his daily run and sniff, and Thom thought now was a good time to -- chat. Yes. Chat. That was the word.

Sean cracked an eye open, the bright green of his iris shining in the lights Thom had turned on. “What’s on your mind, love?” Sean asked, cool as a cucumber.

“Snuggling.” Thom stated the word carefully, letting his disapproval color the sound.

“You told me I needed to get to know him.” Sean stretched, all those beautiful lean muscles sliding under pale skin.

“You never snuggled with me.” Thom knew what a ridiculous thing it was to say. He’d never been the kind for post-coital clinging.

“Nope. Hey, you got to watch.” Sean sat up, scratching his chest for a moment.

“I miss that,” Thom murmured.

Sean raised a brow. “Snuggling?”

“No, scratching. Nothing ever feels quite right without your body.”

“That sucks.” Sean stopped rubbing his chest, though. “Look, you keep pushing me to move on. I thought you’d be happy.”

“So did I.” Thom paused, trying to make his thoughts have some order. “I’m jealous. I can’t help it.”

“Do you want me to kick him out?” Sean sounded so reasonable. Nothing about this was reasonable.

“No.” Thom liked Elan, even liking the man made everything weird.

“Then what?” Sean spread his hands wide. “I can’t make love with you, Thom. Or feed off you. If you want me to have someone in my life, touching is part of that.”

“I know that!” He reached out with all his will and tried to touch Sean, but couldn’t even manage a static shock. Damn it. “Logically it all makes sense. This isn’t logical.”

“Did it hurt you to watch? When Elan and I were together?”

“No.” No, that was the sexiest thing he’d ever seen. If he’d still been human he would have come until he couldn’t see.

“Oh.” Sean looked so confused. Thom couldn’t blame him. Who else had to contend with a ghostly ex live-in?

“It hurt after. When he gave you snuggling. I was a terrible lover, wasn’t I?”

“No. You loved me a lot.”

“I still do. I just can’t do it physically.” Thom sighed, which was weird with no breath. “I want you to be happy, lover. I do. If he’s that good, well, that works for me.”

“Great.” Sean rolled out of bed, then stretched again, joints popping. “Thanks, Thom. That means a lot to me.”

“Yeah. No problem.” The chat had gone to shit, and he was fading, so Thom lifted a hand to wave good-bye before he went wherever he went when he left Sean’s earthly plane.

Too damned bad that whole conversation had gone nowhere.

Elan stood in line at the coffee shop, his running shorts a little damp for comfort. He would get a peppermint latte to go, because Sean liked peppermint. Good thing coffee didn’t keep him awake, as it was just after dusk.

The thought of Sean made him sweat a little more. They’d been sleeping together for almost two months, and Elan was… fascinated.
